Tree removal and felling in Glastonbury and across Somerset
When a tree has to come down, we take it down safely and in a way that suits the space around it.
What is tree removal and felling?
Tree felling means taking a tree down completely. Where there’s room, it can come down in one go. Where it’s close to a house, fence or road, it’s taken apart in sections from the top down.
Felling isn’t always the only answer. Crown reduction or pruning can sometimes solve the problem and keep the tree.

Tree removal and felling questions
Do I need permission to fell a tree?
Often not, but it’s important to check first. If the tree has a Tree Preservation Order or stands in a conservation area, you normally have to contact the council before any work starts. Somerset Council can tell you whether either applies to your tree.
What happens if the tree is protected?
A tree with a Tree Preservation Order normally needs the council’s consent before it’s felled. If the tree is in a conservation area, you normally have to apply to the council at least six weeks before felling any tree with a trunk more than 7.5cm across, measured 1.5 metres above the ground. The details are put on public display so neighbours can comment. Felling a protected tree without doing this can be a criminal offence.
We can make the application for you.
What happens to the wood and branches?
We’ll agree with you before we start whether the wood and branches are taken away or left as logs or woodchip.
What about the stump?
Felling normally leaves a low stump. If you want it gone too, it can be removed with stump grinding.
Just tell us if you’d like the stump removed too, so we can include it in your quote.
How long does it take?
It depends on the size of the tree and how easy it is to get to. We’ll give you an idea of how long it will take when we quote.
